The Village Stay

Two extra days living the life of the valley

On the Schools Expedition with Village Stay, students step out of the trekking rhythm and into the daily life of a Kokoda valley community. Across a two-to-three-day homestay they live with local families, take part in traditional activities, and learn the customs and language that have shaped the valley for generations — the same customs our local PNG guides honour every day on the Track.

  • Traditional weaving, gardening & sago preparation with village families
  • Community service project alongside the village school
  • Language exchange & oral histories from village elders
  • Shared meals and evening reflection in the community

“Had the best experience. Amazing, friendly and knowledgeable Guide. The porters were all fantastic and looked after us every step of the way. They always managed to get the best camp sites. The food was amazing quality — I didn’t think I would be eating warm donuts on the track!”

“So glad I did this! Truly a life changing experience. Phil was excellent from start to finish. I particularly liked the way he respected the local PNG people and because he's been doing the track for so long they all welcomed him like an old friend. I felt safe, well informed, and slept surprisingly well!”
