The Kokoda Track
Company
“We don't just walk the Track. We belong to it — and we've spent two decades earning the right to bring people along.”
Australian owned and operated for over 20 years. We are the team behind Australia's most trusted Kokoda expeditions — Australian Chaperones who have walked the line for decades, and senior local PNG guides born and raised on the very ground we cross.
It started with a single crossing
The Kokoda Track Company was founded in [founding year] by [founder name], after a first crossing that changed everything. What began as one person's pilgrimage became a calling — to share the Kokoda experience with the care, the respect, and the people it deserves.
Over the years that followed, we have guided more than [2,500+] trekkers across the 96 kilometres of the Owen Stanley Range. We have built relationships with the villages along the line that go back generations, and we have trained a team of Australian Chaperones and local PNG guides who are, simply, the best in the business.
We are not military historians with a side interest in trekking. We are trekking people who live and breathe the Track — and who carry its history forward because it matters, not because it sells. Every Chaperone and every guide on our team walks the line because they love it, and it shows.
A word from [founder name]
“[A short, personal statement from the founder about why the Track matters and what the company stands for — a sentence or two in their own voice. This is a placeholder for the real quote.]”
Australian Chaperones & local PNG guides
Two teams, one Track. Our Australian Chaperones bring the planning, preparation, and historical depth. Our local PNG guides bring the land, the language, and the lived memory. Together they are what makes a Kokoda Track Company expedition different.
Australian Chaperones
Planning • Safety • Historical Depth
Our Australian Chaperones are the constant on every expedition — the experienced trek leaders who handle the planning, the gear, the fitness preparation, and the day-to-day decisions that keep a group safe and moving. They are the people you meet before you fly, the ones who call you about boots and blister kits, and the ones standing at the Kokoda Archway when you arrive.
- Decades of Kokoda and high-altitude trekking experience
- Personal pre-trek preparation & gear consultations
- Daily historical briefings on the 1942 campaign
- Lead the safety, evacuation, and group-welfare protocols
Local PNG Guides
The Land • The Language • The Living Memory
Our local PNG guides are born and raised along the Track. They know every ridge, every creek crossing, and every village between Kokoda and Owers' Corner — and they carry the oral history of the valley as it was passed down to them. They are the connection between a trekker and the real Kokoda, the one the villagers know.
- Born and raised on the Track, fluent in the local languages
- Carry the villages' oral history of the 1942 campaign
- Lead the route, the camps, and the cultural protocols
- Direct, ongoing economic support to valley communities

We walk with the villages, not through them
The Kokoda Track passes through the land, the gardens, and the villages of the Kokoda valley's custodians. For over 20 years we have worked with those communities — employing local guides and porters, staying in village guesthouses, buying food grown along the line, and supporting the schools and clinics that serve the valley.
We honour the local custom and the Sabbath because we are guests, and because that respect is how the Track stays open for the next group. Every expedition puts real money, real work, and real relationships back into the communities that make the journey possible.
